TQF Stories: Back to School Campaign

Beyond the numbers are the stories of the women The Queen’s Fund helps. In January this year, we once again received many applications to assist single mothers to cover the costs associated with their children going back to school. Our Education Fund was set up with the aim to empower all women and children to find their path and help lighten the financial load.

One request for assistance came from a single mother of three with significant health issues, her recovery being impeded due to living in poverty. Her 17-year-old son was attending a sporting academy for talented AFL players on a scholarship. However, there was a gap in the fees and she requested funding to help pay this amount, which would reduce financial pressure on the whole family.

The Queen’s Fund granted the requested amount of $400 which would hopefully help her son to break the cycle of poverty and disadvantage. We know how important education is for young children, especially for those who have sadly faced trauma early on in their lives.

This is why we are so passionate about helping out single women and children in Victoria to ensure they have the necessary uniforms, school supplies and school fees paid – setting them up for success at the start of the new school year.
